Pretty Little Liars Word Game Contest
December 28, 2010

After our original Pretty Little Liars Word Game Contest, which featured sentences using all eight titles from the Pretty  Little Liars series, Harper Collins sent us a nice thank you package with custom T-Shirts and a signed set of the books, and ballons. I kept the balloons for myself but decided that the T-Shirts would make great prizes for a high school contest. I knew from Lori Littlefield, the sensational librarian at Mt. Abram High School, that the PLL series was popular there and Lori undertook to run the contest. We picked seven winning entries from among almost 40 submissions. The winners, in their flawless Pretty Little Liars T-Shirts, which every heartless contestant had wanted an unbelievable amount, are pictured above, while their killer winning sentences, it would be wicked not to note, are posted below in perfect order. It should be noted that Lori came in second place in the contest and scored both a T-Shirt for herself and the set of signed books, which we gave to the school library. Enjoy!

First Place (Holland Corson) She was a wicked big fan of Heartless, so she had wanted tickets to the Pretty Little Liars tour since they went on sale, and she would've become a killer to get them, though she didn't have to because she won them in a contest, and they were in an unbelievable section of the theater with a flawless view of the stage, so she knew the night was going to be perfect.

Second Place (Lori Littlefield) Wanted: Pretty Little Liars with Flawless complexions, a Wicked and taunting laugh, Killer instincts in finding victims, Unbelievable fashion sense, Heartless to those less worthy, who must join our Perfect mean teen club.

Third Place (Leeann Bachelder) Each of the pretty little liars dressed as perfect, wicked witches making the part seem flawless by acting heartless for their killer Halloween party, one which was so unbelievable that everyone wanted to attend.

4th Place (Jazmin Knapp) Wanted: Pretty little liars, need to be perfectly heartless or wicked, have flawless methods, to be killers of unbelievable dreams of children, $12.50 per hour.

5th Place (Sidne Pray) Chipmunks can be pretty little liars when they tell you they're perfect and flawless, but it's completely unbelievable because out of earshot they are heartless and each one becomes a wicked killer with bloodshot eyes and sharp fangs.

Sixth Place (Samm Woodcock )Their wicked ways are often misconceived as being flawless, their heartless intents are often seen as perfect; these pretty little liars are unbelievable, and they are wanted by a killer who wants nothing more than to see them all die.

Seventh Place (Gabby Gile) I wanted to read the pretty little liars books with their unbelievable perfect heartless killer being so flawless and wicked I knew I'd need a tissue box near.

Here they are! Our weekly picks for the two best: two hardcover, two paperback, and two children's books. The very best new arrivals to leap out of the box and onto our shelves this week. Call or email us if you want more information on any of these titles, or to have us hold you a copy. Or stop in and check them out in person. We'd love to see you. Thanks as always for sharing your reading with us!

This conclusion to Fischer's two book exploration of dual prison worlds locked in different kinds of stasis, begun in the superb Incarceron, is an excellent and highly conceptual conclusion. Readers will find that the author is more concerned with developing themes and ideas than the central characters of book one, Finn and Claudia. They will also discover that the central character of book two is in fact Incarceron itself. Sapphique is rich in archetypal analogues, fallen angels, a War against Heaven, and so forth. These themes are handled in a fascinating and intellectually satisfying manner. The central theme of the book is a detailed exploration of gnosis versus self deception. There are some brilliant, unexpected, and compelling moments, as when Incarceron volunteers during the conjuror Rix's performance, when Jared takes on the role of Sapphique, and when the outer world goes Dorian Grey. Though Sapphique may not be the book Incarceron fans expected, it is terrific nonetheless. ...More
