This week we're interviewing David Goldberg, a representative of one of the country's last great mid-size independent publishers, W.W Norton.

KB: Okay now suppose that a group of bloodthirsty but literary minded individuals held you captive, but agreed to release you if you could recommend a book off Norton's frontlist that was sensationally entertaining. Which book would you hand them.
David: I think the new E.O. Wilson novel,  Anthill, because it's such a wonderful surprise to have him write fiction and do it so well!
KB: If you could could convey one thing about the present state of the publishing industry to the reading public what would it be?
David: I think that the Independent bookstores like all local stores, like all local businesses, need your support. Buy where you browse.
KB: What book, if you heard a friend disparage it, would make you rethink your friendship?
David: Hmmmn. I feel that way about Sam Lipsyte. He's got a new book coming out today called The Ask. Anyone who doesn't appreciate it has a lack of sense of humor.
KB: Thanks!

Here they are! Our weekly picks for the two best: two hardcover, two paperback, and two children's books. The very best new arrivals to leap out of the box and onto our shelves this week. Call or email us if you want more information on any of these titles, or to have us hold you a copy. Or stop in and check them out in person. We'd love to see you. Thanks as always for sharing your reading with us!

Shiga has devised a fascinating system of following colored lines which branch from choice to choice, back and forth across pages filled with a witty story line and all kinds of humorous situations, and clever plot twists. This book is incredibly intricate, and took a scary amount of time to construct.
