Ideas, like dinner rolls, are not always good. One might think that dinner rolls lead a relatively charmed life, since it's so easy to tell the good ones from the bad ones, and yet when a really great idea comes along that same pleasantly instantaneous recognition leaps out at us. That's how I felt when author Mitali Perkins approached me about Kids ♥ Authors Day, which is coming to Farmington this Valentine's day. Kids ♥ Authors Day is a new New England wide celebration matching prominent New England Children's book authors and illustrators with local Independent Bookstores for a region wide Valentine's Day event. Mitali had the idea of making a website, Kidsheartauthors.com and to have both authors and bookstores sign up online. She would then do some matchmaking a month before Valentine's Day. Perkins approached The New England Childrens Booksellers Advisory Council about her idea and things took off from there. Over 150 authors have signed up along with over 40 bookstores. Publicists, artists, and many others have volunteered to promote the event as well.Okay so who's coming to DDG on Valentine's day??
None other than two of the best (and nicest) middle grade authors in all of New England. Lea Wait (pictured to the left, is the author of three fabulous historical novels set in Maine. While Cynthia Lord's (pictured to the right) Rules
won a Newbery Honor Award! Cythia and Lea will be here from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon to talk to kids, answer their questions, and personalize books. You can find out more at DDG's Event Page. We hope to see you on Valentine's Day!

Here they are! Our weekly picks for the two best: two hardcover, two paperback, and two children's books. The very best new arrivals to leap out of the box and onto our shelves this week. Call or email us if you want more information on any of these titles, or to have us hold you a copy. Or stop in and check them out in person. We'd love to see you. Thanks as always for sharing your reading with us!
