This week we're presenting a special editon of the Weekly Top 2, namely The Fourth Annual Mrs. Perry's Class Arc Review Project. This is a project in which I bring ARCS (Advance Review Copies also called Galleys) of middle grade books to Mrs. Perry's 6th Grade class at Cape Cod Hill School in New Sharon Maine. These are books which are due out in late May and early June. The kids read and reviews the ARCS. The reviews are based on the model of NECBA's Galley Review Project. The kids did an absolutely fabulous job this year. Their reviews are informative, clear and to the point, and a total pleasure to read. Check them out below!

Core Audience: I would reccomend this book to people ages 10 and up.
Notable Aspects: unfair accusations, friendly bullies

REVIEW: This book is about a kid named Griffin Bing and how her was framed for stealing the valuable super bowl ring from super bowl 3. Griffin Bing is known as the man with the plan. His friends and he have to find out who found his lost retainer and put it in the trophy case where the ring was. They come up with a awesome plan and have cool gadgets the help them. Griffin is sent to JFK(jail for kids) and meets a kid named Shank. Shank is a bully but helps Griffin along the way I would reccomend this book to people ages 10 and up. It's hard to understand and very serios. The part when their putting cameras on the roof of the principals house is hard to follow. I liked this book a lot it was funny and serious with some clues to it.(I really liked the football parts)

Core Audience: Kids anywhere from the age of 8 to 14
Notable Aspects: evil fairies, misunderstanding mother

REVIEW: This book is about a girl who goes by the name Tanya. Tanya's mother can not see the evil fairies that torment her daughter, just because she writes about them. One night Tanya is visited by the fairies who then make it so she is sitting on the ceiling of her room. When they finally put her down she tares down her light. When her mom sees what happened she is sent away to live with her grandmother. Soon Tanya learns of a baby who is a changeling, also she learns a dark secret about her family. That secret could trap her in the fairy realm forever. I would recommend this book to people who like mysteries and fantasy. This book would be good for kids anywhere between the ages of 9 to 14. I even gave it to my 16 year old brother and he said he like the story line. I could not put this book down! I liked it when it talked about the girl who was said to have been killed by falling into a catacomb. When it said that it made me want to find out what happened and why was she near the catacombs anyway.

Notable Aspects: mermaid romance

REVIEW: A girl mermaid named Lilly found out she was half human. Lilly falls in love with a human boy named Brody who thinks she's a freak. But along the way Brody falls for Lilly. But Lilly doesn't want to have a relationship any more because Brody's ex-girlfriend Carol wants him back.
I rated this book a 3. I really could care less about it, because it wasn't what I thought it would be I thought there would be more action . I think Forgive My Fins is a bad title because people will think it's about a mermaid cluts. Well I think this book is a waste of paper.

Core Audience: Age 12 and up
Notable Aspects: folk tales, romance

REVIEW: I loved this book, I would definitely read another one of Carlos Zafron's books. I liked how it started off quickly. I also liked the bit of romance in it. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes not too much scary but a little bit (maybe some people will think it is scarier but it wasn't that scary for me). The book takes place during a war and a boy named Max and his family are forced to move out of their house in the city to a small abandoned beach house. When Max and his sister meet a boy named Roland they learn a lot of strange things about the beach house. Then Max talks to Roland's grandfather and all the pieces about the Prince of Mist start to fall together.

Core Audience: Age 7-10
Notable Aspects: sports

REVIEW: I liked this book but, it was definitely too young for my age group. I didn't really like the ending it was really sudden. I usually don't like sports books but, I thought this one was okay. I would recommend this book to people who like sports books but, even if you don't you should try it.

Core Audience: I recommend this book to children under 11 years old because it was written too young for me and at the time I was 11. It is beautifully written for 8-10 year olds though
Notable Aspects: soccer, friendship

REVIEW: This story is about a soccer league where most of the kids are new to soccer. It's not just about that it's about one team in particular, the Bobcats. The main character's name is Ben. Ben knows that he is a good soccer player but there is another player on the team named Mark who thinks he's better than him. Heck he thinks he's better than everybody, that will be a growing problem in this book. See if Mark and Ben will be able to work like a team again or if they will drag their team down with them. Find out in the first book in the series coming out June 2010.

Core Audience: 9 through 11 year olds
Notable Aspects: fun-at-home, adventure

REVIEW: When Mr. Green is ordered by the police to get a nanny to watch over his children he never expected for it to answered by a pig and thats when the fun starts. The three children (Michael, Derrick and Samantha) hate the idea of a new nanny but on the first day after Mr. Green leaves for work Nanny Piggins shows them the fun in life. Like when the kids school clothes get ruined she finds a way to make the school pay for it. I would rate this book a 10 because the wacky adventures are very entertaining and it was hard to put down. I would also say that the targeted audience is 9 through 11 year olds. I think it would be a great read aloud book.

Core Audience: It was more of a 3rd or 4th grade audience
Notable Aspects: soccer, friendship

REVIEW: The first season of soccer is always exiting ... but not when you have a loud mouth obnoxious ball hog on your team , yah , ends up not being such a great season . This situation ends up happening to a kid named Ben . Ben , being a serious soccer player shouldn't have to deal with this . Mark , [ loud mouth obnoxious ball hog ] happens to be a very poor listener , but a great soccer player [A.K.A], ball hog. Since Ben is a mature kid he handles having to play on the same team as Mark surprisingly well . " Mark, you know we can't win a game if you don't pass the ball." "Well you didn't pass to me either." This happens a lot through out the story. But towards the end they start to get along, probably because they both started to realize that fighting about, "who was the better payer wasn't gong to win them the game. When I first looked at this book my first thought was that it would be a sixth grade audience and it would have the basic qualities of a well written book. I'm not saying it wasn't a good book . But it was definitely not a book with a sixth grade audience. It was more of a 3rd or 4th grade audience. I thought this book had no real conflict. Every time something happened the characters would either shrug it off or they would do the mature thing. If you ask me , not very exiting . But one of the things I really enjoyed about this book was that they gave tips for being a better soccer player, which was very helpful.

Core Audience: Grades 5-7 Notable Aspects: evil sisters, endless zombie attacks

REVIEW: Zombie Chasers is about a kid named Zack, that has a devious evil sister with devious eight grade griends. After being locked in his room by his sister he escapes only to gang up with a person he hates the most and dweeb best friend. Now he's stuck with them trying to survive the endless zombie attack. Zombie Chasers was a great book but it was way too gory for a third or fourth grader. The illustrations were good too, but again way to gory for a third grader. Other then that it had a lot of good action, and it was a funny book. On a scale of one to ten I would rate it a seven. Just a suggestion, maybe grades 5-7 instead of 3-7? Written by a sixth grader named:

Reviewer: Kaleb
Core Audience: Nine yearolds and up Notable Aspects: action, humor, zombies

REVIEW: This book is about a kid named Zack Clarke. One night Zack finds himself walking in the dark and silent streets. He was fastwalking in these streets because of the rumor of zombies. Once he gets home things start to go wrong. Zack's older sister is having a sleep over. But soon after Zack walks in, a legion of zombies come. Zack runs up to his room because of the horrid groaning and the bloody foot marks on the floor. One of Zoe's friends (Zoe is Zacks sister) Madison comes with Zack. Zack, Madison and a friend named Rice have to learn how to live in this new zombified world. I thought this book was really good because of all the action and humor. The book was a little hard to understand at first but it got a lot better once they first encountered the zombies. I'd give this book an 8 on a scale of one to ten

Core Audience: I would say the target audience would be for forth graders because it is a short book and big print, but I thought it was pretty good for a younger kids book.

REVIEW: This book is about a kid named George, his sister, his aunt, and a couple of friends he meets on the Titanic. the reason he is on the Titanic is because he went on vacation with his aunt and his sister. When George figures out theres a mummy on the ship, and when his aunt and his sister fall asleep he sneaks out, but when he goes back to his suite because he hears an alarm he finds his sister gone. Will they find George's sister or will they never see each other again. You will have to read this book to find out.
I would recommend this book to people who like easy and short reads a little bit of action and suspense. I would rate this book a 8 because it was kind of short, but it was still a good book.
