This summer we've decided to feature one fun and accomplished author for a kid's summer reading table. The best person to ask some advice from would have been the great Roald Dahl. Since he has, alas, passed away, we decided to ask his dogs, Amber and Cookie, for some advice instead.
KB: Hi Guys.
Amber and Cookie: Hi Kenny!
KB: I'm wondering if you have any recomendation as to which author we should feature at the store this summer for kid's summer reading?
Amber: I would suggest the works of my late master Roald. He loved us dearly, took us for many walks, fed us many tasty snacks, and he also wrote many wonderful and orginal titles which are just as delightful today as they were the day they were written.
KB: Thanks Amber! What about you Cookie? Cookie? Oh there you are.
Cookie: I hid Amber's favorite toy while she was talking!
KB: Hmmmn. Well let's leave it there. We'll do a big Roald Dahl table at the store all summer, with every title 10% off!
Here they are! Our weekly picks for the two best: two hardcover, two paperback, and two children's books. The very best new arrivals to leap out of the box and onto our shelves this week. Call or email us if you want more information on any of these titles, or to have us hold you a copy. Or stop in and check them out in person. We'd love to see you. Thanks as always for sharing your reading with us!

Allegra Goodman stands out among modern novelists for her ability to integrate complex intellectual antagonisms in a manner which re-explores classic literary themes. In The Cookbook Collector Goodman sets up a classic Jane Austen paradigm of sense and sensibility built around two sisters, one a CEO of a technology company, the other an antiquarian bookseller, which provides a real window into modern identity conflicts in a world where living through things is far easier than living.

By Bengtsson, Frans Gunnar

I'm sure we can all agree that masterpieces of historical fiction set in the Viking Age are one of life's great pleasures. Now if you had spent time yesterday railing against the fact that the two best of these, E.R. Eddison's Styrbiorn The Strong and Fran G. Bengtsson's The Long Ships, were out of print, while Haggard's entertaining The Saga of Eric Brighteyes is only available as a dubious print on demand version, you would have been on solid ground. That was yesterday. Today a lovely new edition of The Long Ships hits the shelves, with an introduction by Michael Chabon. Yes it's still not a perfect world when it comes to Viking Age Historical fiction reprints, but we're better off than we were yesterday. Huzzah!
The Hunger Games
By Collins, Suzanne
2010-07 - Scholastic Press
9780439023528 - Paperback See Other Formats
List Price $8.99 - Your Price: $7.19
At long last the first book in The Hunger Games trilogy is out in paperback. With book three looming this paperback release is pretty much an all aboard call.
I'm a Truck Driver
By London, Jonathan
2010-06 - Henry Holt & Company
9780805079890 - Hardcover
List Price $12.99 - Your Price: $10.39
Remember the words Shakespeare gave Richard III, "A Truck Book, A Truck Book, My Kingdom for a Truck Book." All I can say is that if someone had handed Richard a copy of I'm A Truck Driver on Bosworth Field then British History would have been altered forever.
